After our client moved into their 1990's built two story, they knew the upper kids' bathroom was on the list to finish being the entire main level had been updated.  We used the rest of the home as inspiration, bringing the current luxury vinyl plank flooring into the space and coordinating the vanity color with the kitchen's island and powerder room's board and batten.

So, are you thinking about updating your bathroom, but not sure where to start? No problem, I've got you covered. Here are five simple updates that can make a big difference in the look and feel of your bathroom:

LIGHTING:  Changing the lighting in your bathroom can completely transform the space. Consider swapping out your old fixtures for something more modern or going for a softer, more ambient feel with soft white bulbs.

The light fixture we are using is the Pavlen 4 Light with Clear Shades from Home Depot and is available in four finishes; antique brass, black, brushed nickle, and bronze.

VANITY TOP + SINKS:  Replacing your vanity top and sinks can give your bathroom an instant facelift. Choose a material that fits your style and budget, like granite, marble, or quartz.  I always suggest using the integrated sink option vs a vessel or drop in to keep things nice and clean.

The vanity we were updating was a double sink in the standard 61″ size so we are using a Quartz Double Basin in Snow White also from Home Depot

FAUCETS:  A new faucet can add a touch of style to your bathroom and can also be more practical if your old one is leaking or difficult to use.  It's a good choice to coordinate the sink with the shower or tub but keeping in mind that the finish does not have to directly match the lighting or other hardware.  Pair together antique brass with black, or black with brushed nickle.

We are using a cooridinating combo from Home Depot by Kohler; Cursiva Single-Handle 3-Spray Tub and Shower Faucet and Sundae 8 in. Widespread 2-Handles Bathroom Faucet.

CABINETRY COLOR:  If you love the layout of your bathroom but want to change the look, consider painting your cabinets. This can be a quick and easy way to give your bathroom a fresh, new feel.

This update can be an easy DIY project with the right materials.  It is highly recommended to use top quality paints especially in an area that's going to have a lot of moisure.  I've outlined my entire process on how to do this in my eBook How to Paint Cabinetry.

FLOORING:  New flooring can also make a big impact in your bathroom. Luxury vinyl plank is a popular choice because it's durable, easy to clean, and comes in a variety of styles.

This home already had LVP in the hallway so we've chosen to contiue it into the bathroom for a seemless finish.  This specific product is discontinued but any white oak would be similar.

And, of course you could add wall color to the mix too.  By making these simple updates, you can have an updated bathroom in just a weekend!
